Nerf bars do more than just look cool. They add function as well, making it easier to get into your truck, especially if it's lifted. They also act as a guard against rocks and other potentially damaging obstacles. After all, it's a lot easier and cheaper to replace your nerf bars than it is to fix and repaint your rocker panels. If you're looking for an accessory that adds both form and function, a set of nerf bars might just be the way to go.

Nerf bars were originally made for racing applications where car-to-car contact was inevitable. Along the way, someone decided to adapt them for use on trucks as rocker guards and steps, and the rest is history. Some nerf bars now have separate steps coming off of the main tubing, making them even easier to use, although the steps are obviously now more visible. Most nerf bars are available in a variety of finishes, including chrome, stainless, and black powdercoat.
Q: Do sidesteps come in pairs?
A: Sidesteps are sold in pairs unless otherwise noted in the product description on our website.

Q: What exactly is a nerf bar, and what other different types of sidesteps are available?
A: There are an enormous variety of sidesteps of available. In general, they can be broken down into three main categories: nerf bars, running boards, and what we call 'truck steps'. Nerf bars are tubular step bars that extend away from the body of the truck to serve as a step. There are an enormous variety of styles and finishes available for nerf bars. Running boards are flat step panels that run directly alongside the body of the truck, and there is huge variety of running boards available on the market. They are available in fiberglass, plastic, or metal, and with or without lights. "Truck steps', as we call them, are individual single steps that do not extend along the length of your truck's rocker panel. The options are seemingly endless with side steps, and really your choice just comes down to a matter of taste for how you want your truck to look.

Q: Do sidesteps fit every truck/SUV/van?
A: While there are a variety of sidesteps that are universal and designed to be able to fit any vehicles, mainly sidesteps are made to be truck-specific. Look at the "fits on" section of the product listing on our site to determine if it's universal are specifically made for your truck.

Q: Is a nerf bar different from a step bar?
A: A nerf bar is the exact same as a step bar, they are two terms that mean the same thing.

Q: What are side steps? Why buy sidesteps?
A: Aside from their stylish good looks, sidesteps are used for secure footing while getting inside or out of your truck. Most come with a rubber footing pad providing a non-slip step in any weather, and most are fade- and crack-resistant even under the harshest conditions.
