They also act as a guard against rocks and other potentially damaging obstacles. After all, it's a lot easier and cheaper to replace your B-Series nerf bars than it is to fix and repaint your rocker panels. » DID YOU KNOW?
Nerf bars were originally made for racing applications where car-to-car contact was inevitable. Along the way, someone decided to adapt them for use on trucks as rocker guards and steps, and the rest is history. Some nerf bars now have separate steps coming off of the main tubing, making them even easier to use, although the steps are obviously now more visible. Most nerf bars are available in a variety of finishes, including chrome, stainless, and black powdercoat.
