With your stock oil pan, as you accelerate hard or turn a corner, oil moves away from the oil pump pickup. In high performance machines this can cause oil starvation which in turn can lead to significant internal engine damage. To solve this problem aftermarket companies have developed oil pans with internal baffles that trap oil in the area of the sump pickup to prevent oil starvation during sharp movements.
