AC Short Shifters

An aftermarket AC short shifter is a great replacement for a worn out or sloppy factory shifter, and will provide a sportier feel while changing gears. Installing an aftermarket AC short shifter is usually very easy, requiring that only a few bolts and/or retaining clips be removed in order to install the new shifter. Using a new AC short shifter can take a little bit of getting used to, but once you do you'll be impressed with how precise your shifts now are.

A short shifter is much more than a shortened lever. A true short shifter repositions the fulcrum point of the shifter so that gear changes can be made with less actual throw, resulting in faster and more precise shifting. Faster shifting, of course, results in faster driving, which is especially important if you happen to drive your ride on the track every so often. A few AC short shifters are even available with an adjustable lever, which allows you to fine-tune the length and throw of the shifter.

Q: How do you install a short shifter?
A: Short shifters are installed by removing your factory shift lever from your transmission. Your center console will have to be removed along with your shift boot and shift knob in order to access the lower part of your shifter mechanism. Once removed, the short shifter should be directly bolted in and everything should be re-assembled. Instructions are included and installation takes around 30 minutes with ordinary hand tools.

Q: Are short shifters available for every vehicle?
A: Short shifters are vehicle specific and are not universal. They are not available for any automatic transmission vehicles.

A: A short shifter dramatically improves your shifting performance due in large part to reduced shifter travel, or "short throw". If you're in a performance situation, the additional seconds it takes for a factory stock shifter to go from one gear to another can result in a slower time. If you want speed, reduce the throw and increase your acceleration by getting a short shifter.
