GMC Acadia AWD Extravaganza!

The GMC brand was spared from the chopping block in 2009 as General Motors decided to ax Pontiac instead. Long sold via unified Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealers, GMC is essentially Chevy Trucks with a different trim level. In fact, not a single vehicle sold by GMC is unique to itself, sharing mostly everything with Chevrolet it's much larger stablemate.

But GMC is more profitable than Pontiac as its trucks, crossovers and sport utility vehicles have higher profit margins. One can make the argument that GMC is redundant, but as long as customers keep snapping up Sierras, Canyons, Yukons, Savanas, Terrains and Acadias, that doesn't really matter to GM. It all comes down the bottom line and GMC does wonders if the automaker.

Gmc Acadia AWD

One of the most modern vehicles sold by GMC is the GMC Acadia, a large crossover with seating for seven or eight passengers. Based on the same platform underpinning the Buick Enclave, the Acadia has a sportier appearance while the Enclave is all about luxury. Still, the Acadia when nicely equipped is a well appointed crossover, a very good alternative to the Honda Pilot and upcoming Ford Explorer crossover.

Offered in front or all wheel drive, the GMC Acadia AWD model offers the most robust driving experience in all kinds of road conditions. Suited for light duty off-roading, you'll enjoy what the GMC Acadia AWD has for you as it moves through snow, rain and mud.

Just one engine-transmission combination is offered with the GMC Acadia AWD a 3.6L VVT V6 paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The front wheel drive version gets 17 city/24 highway while the GMC Acadia returns 16 city/23 highway, one mpg better than the Pilot.

Well Appointed CUV

The GMC Acadia comes loaded with a number of features and can be further optioned to meet the desires of buyers. Four trim levels are offered—SL, SLE, SLT1 and SLT2—with each model offering AM/FM stereo with MP3-compatible CD player; tilt and telescoping steering wheel; couble dual exhaust with chrome tips; 18 inch wheels; head curtain side-impact air bags for all rows in outboard seating positions; OnStar subscription; and StabiliTrak with traction control.

Optionally, the list is lengthy and includes: Bluetooth for phone; remote start, review backup camera; touch-screen DVD navigation system; Bose Advanced 10-speaker sound system; tri-zone automatic climate control; and power adjustable, power folding, heated outside rearview mirrors with driver's side auto-dimming, integrated turn signal and driver side memory in addition to other amenities.

Come Fall 2010, the Acadia Denali will hit the market, a specially optioned crossover featuring Denali grill and trim; HID Xenon headlights; 20 inch chrome clad wheels; power liftgate; and more. Is the GMC Acadia AWD worth your consideration? Absolutely. Compare it to the Enclave as well as to the Chevrolet Traverse, the latter closer to the Acadia in price and appearance.
