Stage 2 Body Kit

TRD Stage 2 Body Kit

article by 8Legs

February 2001

Well I finally broke down and bought the TRD Stage 2 kit. I also purchased the interior trim pieces and the exhaust. I bought all of this at Mc George Toyota in Richmond, Va.  It cost me $200 to get the rear spoiler painted at the body shop, TRD has discontinued this spoiler and all they had left was a few blue ones. The rest of the kit painted from TRD and installed by the dealer was $6,300. It took 3 weeks to get the kit (that was including the kit getting lost in Chicago for 3 days), The dealer took three days to install every thing.

Wow you may say. It completely changed the whole look of the car. The car has whole new attitude, sound, and fun factor. I did not realize how much the kit would refine the car but it did, unfortunately pictures do not do it justice.

One thing that I wish I had done was to take more pictures of the install but I was out of town when I took it in and the dealer installed all of this at a record pace. He insured me that though the install was not easy, anyone with the right tools and a lift should be able to do it. The car was built with this in mind and I will give kudos to Toyota for their insight.

I will say one thing if attention is what you are after this is the way to do it. It really turns heads. I really like the "what the heck was that factor". I cannot wait until spring to drop the top and do a little cruising.

This kit is not for everyone but I really like it and think it adds a great deal of personality to the Spyder.

I took the Spyder into the dealer on a Monday and picked it up on Thursday. I was pumped up to see the results. Well I got to the dealer late that evening. I had a crowd that had gathered around. I even had a guy ask me to take him for a spin. Being that it was late I gave him a rain check.

I am very pleased with the results. Here is a list of all the mods that I have done.

bullet

TRD Stage 2 kit-Including New Front Bumper, Side Skirts, and rear valance.

bullet

TRD Exhaust-Great sound especially when it is wound up. A little pricey but looks great

bullet

TRD Interior Aluminum Trim Kit including –Vent Trim, climate control trim, and the trim rings around the gauges

bullet

TRD aluminum shift knob and E-Brake cover.- Both have an awesome feel.

bullet

TRD fog light set up for the stage 2 kit. – I was surprised to see that they are yellow and they work better than any fog lights I have ever had installed. I also don’t get the people blinking me like I have my brites   on

bullet

The kumosport shifter kit  - The only complaint that I had about the spyder was the sloppy shifter. This is the solution and at 20 clams light on the wallet.

bullet

The antenna from Radio Shack works  great but looks kinda goofy at high speed so I am going to replace it with a S2000 modified antenna compliments of iMR2.

bullet

 A Kenwood DPX 5010-double din cd/tape player

bullet

 An Orion 500 watt amp

bullet

Replaced the stock speakers and tweeters in the doors- Boston Acoustics

bullet

Plenty of dynomat to take out the rattle in the door panels

bullet

I put Two eight inch Boston Acoustic Woofers in a custom made box in the rear compartment with quick disconnects for easy removal.

bullet

I have a Jspec steering wheel emblem

bullet

Fuel Door Emblem is on the way

bullet

35 % mirror tint on the side windows. 20% on the rear and a four inch drop in 20% mirror tint on the windshield

bullet

Posterts aluminum trim for the door sill. The ones that are in the group buy from Adam Cassidy are much better looking and worth the extra money. When  I am ready to replace these I will go that way.

bullet

TRD rear spoiler with light amd a neat little painted blank that goes were the stock third break light is

bullet

One Carbon fiber TRD emblem  that replaced the Toyota emblem on the back.

bullet

  TRD air filter.

I think that is about it and I think that I am almost finished. I have a few more goodies on my wish list. I am looking into a Turbo/Super Charger. And a set of roll bars. Then I will be finished with this project.
