Buyer's Guide for the 99-05 Pontiac Grand Am
The final generation of the Grand Am is a beautiful car. It's got sleek lines, is sporty, and is fun to drive! Yet it's still rare to find customized Grand Ams on the road. That's what makes them so fun to modify!
This buyer's guide reflects some of Andy's Auto Sport's top picks for mods for your Grand Am. There are plenty of options and really no choice will be wrong, but this guide features our favorites.
Intake - A Weapon R intake is the way to go, whether you have a 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder. Their Secret Weapon intake packs punch and is one of only a handful of options for Grand Am owners.
If you want not only the extra power of an intake, but want a customer color to it too, check out the MP Racing intakes. Their intakes come with a variety of color options, including candy orange if that's what you're looking for!
Exhaust - If you've got the 6-cyl Grand Am, you have to spring for the Borla exhaust if at all possible. This thing will totally transform the feel and sound of your car. It's the cream of the crop, and it's worth every penny (but it ain't cheap!).
If you've got a 4-cylinder, the Pace Setter exhaust is the only option for you, and it's a good one. Even though the exhaust itself is black, don't let that discourage you. After all, the key is that it opens up the airways to let more air through. Plus the tip is polished, and that's all anyone is going to see anyway.
Body Kit - We're not going to be modest here. We make the coolest body kit for the Grand Am! Yes, even though we are known specifically as a retailer of almost every modification part under the sun for the Grand Am, we also have our own line of body kits! The one we designed for the Grand Am is awesome. It totally transforms the look of the car. If there is one mod you can do to your Grand Am to most dramatically change its appearance, it would have to be a body kit. Hood - You know those WS6 hoods that you see on Firebirds? How about putting one on your Grand Am! That's what you get with the Duraflex brand hood shown here. This thing fits 2-door and 4-door models.
Tail Lights - Your Grand Am has a lot of options for custom tail lights. We like the ones from Spec D a lot. They're well priced compared to the competition, and they totally change the look from the factory tail lights! They also use LED technology which is a hot trend right now. If you put a set of these on your Grand Am, people will want to drive behind you just to see these shiny things light up in all their glory.
Headlights - We love these Spec D LED halo projector headlights too. They've got all our favorite features: the new LED technology, the cool angel eyes, and the projector beams. This set has a black housing, and we love the sleek look of them.
Lowering Springs - There's one other touch you need to add to your car to complete the look and feel of a well-modded car: springs. Go with this set from B+G. It'll drop your Grand Am about an inch and a half in the front and the rear, which is a nice drop that will make a noticeable different but isn't so low that you'd be dragging your bumpers along the ground.
