So you say, why can't I just use the same mechanism that holds open my stock hood and trunk? Carbon fiber hoods and trunks are usually much lighter in weight than their stock counterparts. These supports are simple in design but perform an important task. Overtime lift supports can lose their charge so that they can no longer fully support the weight of your hood. You might first find this out the hard way by getting hit in the head as the hood tries to close on top of you. Once your hood starts to creep down there is not turning back, your dampers are shot. If you have worn out hood dampers it is time to get a brand new replacement pair. Your frustration will vanish and you will have flawless hood operation for many years to come
