Mishimoto's top-mount intercooler for the 2019+ Subaru Ascent and 2020+ Legacy XT/Outback XT replaces the stock plastic end tank unit with cast-aluminum end tanks and an 88-percent-larger high-flow core. Flow improves over 40 percent versus stock, fin surface area increases 76 percent, and outlet temps stay within 10 degrees of ambient. A pre-drilled 1/8-NPT port is included for temp or boost sensors, and the black powder-coat finish suits any build.

Q: What is an intercooler? Why buy an intercooler?
A: Both superchargers and turbochargers heat air as they compress it. This heat can hurt the combustion process by changing the density of air entering the intake manifold from a cool charge to a hot one. An intercooler is used to lower the temperature of the air and in turn increase the density of that air, so more air can enter the cylinders and create more power.
Q: Do intercoolers work for any vehicle? Is there any pre-condition needed for me to buy an intercooler?
A: Intercoolers are sold either individually as universal cores or as kits with piping and couplers included. Turbocharged and supercharged engines can utilize intercoolers effectively while naturally aspirated vehicles do not have use for them.
