A: Coolant tanks are external reservoirs that are used to catch and store excess coolant that may be forced out of your radiator when temperatures and pressures are high. With coolant tanks, instead of having fluid spray all over your engine bay and onto the ground, it is forced into a coolant tank where it can then be sucked back into the radiator once temperatures lower again.
