Edelbrock's Stage 1 Street Supercharger System (part #1556) bumps the FA20/4U-GSE engine in 2012-19 Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota GT86 to 242 hp and 186 ft-lbs at the rear wheels. It uses an Eaton 1320 TVS rotor assembly in an inverted layout with an air-to-water intercooler and front-mount heat exchanger to flatten the mid-range power dip and deliver a linear curve. The kit is 50-state emissions legal; the included tune is calibrated for stock vehicles with a cat-back exhaust as the only permitted modification.

A: A supercharger is a form of forced induction. Superchargers offer perhaps the most dramatic increase in horsepower to your car of any aftermarket products. By compressing the air, it lets the engine stuff more air into a cylinder. More air means that more fuel can be stuffed in, too, so you get more power from each explosion in each cylinder. A supercharger's power supply comes from a belt that connects directly to the engine. It gets its power the same way that your water pump or alternator does.
