Toyota Badge Removal and J-Spec Nose Badge

Toyota Badge Removal & J-Spec Badging
By: FrankDesign

I think it's a general concensus that everyone hates that Cowboy hat thing that Toyota insisted on putting on our beautiful cars. Now, we can do something about it! The J-Spec MRS Badge is available from a few vendors on SpyderShopper / SpyderChat. I got mine from JapanParts. You can find them on SpyderShopper.com

Materials:
J-Spec Badge
Plastic Spatula or putty-knife
Towels (soft)
Water hose
Windex or other glass cleaner
Elbow grease

Step 1.

First, use LOTS of water. Water is definetely the key here. Wet down the entire area of the badge. It helps to do this in the sun, as the adhesive gets weak and plyable. Water will make the next step possible without causing scratches.

Step 2.

I used a plastic spatula (don't tell my girlfriend) to get underneath the stock badge. If the hood is good and wet, it should slide under with little effort. DO NOT SCRATCH THE HOOD! Be gentle, and take your time. If the spatula has a good blade on the front, it should ease right in there. I suppose you could also use a plastic 'putty-knife' or whatever. Just DON'T use anything metal. REMEMBER: The badge has 2 little metal poles attached to the back of it that stick into your hood. You can see them in the picture.

Step 3.

Here's a picture of the really fun part. I must have spent at LEAST an hour trying to get this stuff off before finding the best solution. While your car is baking in the sun, go inside and get some WINDEX, or equvilant glass cleaner. Dry off the hood.

Step 4.

Spray down the adhesive covered area well, and let soak. Now, let it soak some more... Believe me, it's worth it. After about 15 minutes, the adhesive should be nice and soft. I used a clean car-washing type towel for the scrubbing process, I imagine you can use whatever you have lying around. Scrub the adhesive off in a up-down / back-forth motion based on which part of the adhesive you're removing. If the going get's tough, take a break and soak the adhesive again with the window cleaner.

Step 5.

The J-Spec badge comes with a pretty effective adhesive backing already on it. Looks to me like the stuff that's already on the car with the Cowboy hat emblem. So, we know that it will stick like hell. ;) The J-Spec badge also comes equiped with the same little metal poles that you'll see sticking out of the back of the original badge, so you can be assured to get the new one on straight! AND here's the new look of your Spyder!

Editor's Notes:
Others have use dental floss instead of a plastic spatula or putty knife.
Others have used WD-40 or Goo-Gone or Goof-Off as the solvent instead of Windex.
