Speculations for a 2015 S2000 Replacement?
According to Honda design chief, Nobuki Ebisawa, there has been a long-term decision to design a roadster with hybrid-performance besting the sole sportscar in Honda's current lineup, the CR-Z. Using a modified Fit platform as a starting point and other parts from Honda's current lineup, the roadster is set to inherit new technology while reducing curb weight.
The plan to reinvigorate the RWD-roadster platform is based out of its need to re-establish itself amongst the enthusiast crowd that made Honda so popular, and the second reason is to compete against a planned "mini FT86" from Toyota, due to come out soon, and the Mazda Miata, which is expecting a revamp in the near future.

What do you think? Personally, the Honda S2000 is one of the best bang-for-the-buck cars out there, and it's performance is not shabby in the slightest. In fact, I can hardly think of road car with a 240 hp, 2.0 liter normally-aspirated engine. It was never great on gas, but maybe with the coupling of hybrid-technology, it might be a huge hit across the board, attracting both young racers and mothers looking to rekindle their youth without blowing huge cash.
According to Consumer Guide, introducing an S2000 replacement would, in their terms, "be a heartening philosophical U-turn." They then go on to talk about how Honda's lack of focus in engineering has been replaced by their emphasis on marketing, which is great for selling fodder like the Accord Crosstour, but never will create a sublime sportscar that will satisfy you. Make sense? I hope so.
