Radio Install Using the Scosche Install Kit

Radio Install Using the Scosche Install Kit
By: Rick

Part #  TA 2047

Call:  800-363-4490, ext. 1 to order one- $14.95 + $4 shipping (I think)

Before I did anything . . .
Tools I used- Cordless drill w/ Phillips bit, Flat screwdriver, Phillips Screwdriver
Installation Start Time:  7:58
Step One: Lay the kit out. NOTE: You don’t need the parts on the bag unless you’re installing in a RAV4 or using a radio with the two knobs
Close up of the Manual- notice PART #  TA2047
Step 2: Pull off the silver plastic piece- pull from the back (toward the front of the car) and it should snap right off
Take these 2 black screws from the bottom holes. This releases the trim piece.
View of the side rail, with trim removed. Note the grass in the floorboard, care of my wife
Pull off the three Climate Control knobs, and lay them on the dash.
Next, pull out the air circulation switch- BE CAREFUL! The little needle like thing sticking out is actually a piece of clear plastic that makes the knob light up- it is separate and can fall out (mine did). If it does, don’t panic- it just slides back in.
You’ll need to take out these 2 silver screws to release the AC panel trim. If you don’t want to pull it all the way off, beware of the wiring harness that goes to the clock.
I don’t like having things just hanging, so I removed the panel- the harness for the clock disconnects by pushing in a small white tab. Take this off, lay it on the dash.
HARDEST PART!! Pull from the top 2 corners to release the hooks holding the trim piece around the radio. I used a flat screwdriver, but if you do, just be sure not to force too hard, or you could break the trim (and you’ll need it later)
Take the 4 screws out of the 4 corners of the factory radio using manual Phillips screwdriver, and pull it out
Disconnect the Antenna wire, and 2 molded plugs. The small one is for rear speakers- don’t ask me why it’s hooked up, but you don’t need it for an aftermarket radio.
Radio is out, and it’s 8:11- and I am even stopping to take pictures!!
This is what I am putting in, Pioneer DEH-P7300. Fine radio, has screen savers, including an F-1 car race and an eagle flying. MSRP is $500 or something like that, but I got mine on ebay for $259 NEW!
Factory adapter on right attached to Pioneer harness. You can use the crimp style connectors if you want, but I soldered mine and used heat shrink for protection. This is the best way to do it, but it takes time. I already did this earlier- inside where the AC was on! The small connector is of no use- connect it if you want, but I recommend saving the time.
No matter what radio you have, you need to take the metal mounting sleeve off of the unit to attach it to the install kit
Install the ‘pocket’ onto the install kit- put it in the bottom grooves and snap it in place
There’s the pocket in place . . .
Slide the metal mounting sleeve in place, then bend the appropriate tabs in (if they won’t touch the plastic, they’re not necessary)
Notice the tabs I had to bend...
Now, break off the 2 middle pieces- NOT THE WHOLE ARM( It will damage the kit),  just the tab with the screw holes.
Plug your wiring harness / adapter into the factory harness, thread antenna wire to the right side to attach during the next step . . .
Plug in the radio, slide it in until it clicks (locks in place) then attach the antenna wire to the back right. Next, go ahead and secure with the 4 screws. NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO TURN THE SWITCH AND ENSURE EVERYTHING WORKS!!
Reinstall the factory trim ring. You’ll need to put a little super glue around it to keep it in place
Grab the AC panel, and plug in the clock harness
Reattach 3 round knobs, and circulation lever knob. Then, put the side pieces back on. Be patient and line them up correctly- there are 2 slots they slide in. Reattach the 2 screws at the bottom of each, then snap the silver plastic cover in place Also: there are 2 black pieces of vinyl on your stock radio- remove these and put them on your aftermarket radio to cover up wires in the back.
DONE! 8:33- 35 minute install time- taking pics and everything, saved $55! Note the extra rear speaker harness in the picture . . . never could find those dang rear speakers ;-)

Hope this article helps out. The Scosche kit looks great- the radio doesn’t stick out too far, as it is slightly recessed into the kit. I was afraid it would be sticking WAY out, but this kit solves that!
