Eliminating the Rattle from the Pull Handle

Eliminating the Rattle from the Pull Handle
By: Rick

This has been discussed at length several times, and keeps coming up. So, I have taken the time to write a quick How to for those that are tired of hearing the annoying rattle behind their right ear.

NOTE: By reading this article you agree not to pay attention to the fingerprints/smudges on the rollbar – I haven’t had time to clean it lately.

The rattle is coming from the plastic insert that is stamped “Pull” and is in the middle of the latch.

To remove it you can a) wait for it to eventually pop out after use (took 8000 miles for mine) or use a small knife to CAREFULLY pry off the insert, as I did. You must remember to do this GENTLY!

OK. Done. Notice the 2 plastic tabs on either side- here is where the rattle comes from.  You will see this when you remove the insert: the tabs go in the 2 holes on either side, of course.

Solution: Get some foam double sided tape ( I think you can find it at Wal-Mart in the auto dept for ~ $3). Cut a small piece, and put it in the middle of the latch, like shown.  Now, peel of the backing, and place the insert into the slot. Voila! No more rattle!
