Description: Anthropologist Allen Schery
has created a unique display of 35 Vettes. He has succeeded in his
goal to show how the Corvette fits into the culture and has included enough
Americana to entertain men, women, children, Corvetters, and non-Corvetters
alike. Each of his rooms includes a Vette displayed against a giant mural of
a historic US site. In the background, you'll hear the top 100 pop hits from
the model year. On a TV set, you can see lengthy clips from movies and TV
series popular in that model year. On a second screen, you'll see a slide show
featuring famous people, events, and fads from that model year. In some rooms,
you can find a display case with memorabilia honoring an entertainer popular
during the model year. Celebrity collections include: James Dean, Elvis,
Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, Madonna, and Bruce Springstein. There is an Indy
room with several Indy Pace Cars parked on original bricks from Indy. The videos
in that room recap past Indy races. There are 2 movie theatres in which
"Corvette Summer" and "Death Race 2000" play continuously. Oh yes, and the cars
from these films are on display in the theatres. A large room displays the
evolution of the Corvette engine with actual engines in lucite cubes.
Lining the walls of this room are jumbo exhibits of Corvette magazines, ads,
models, and toys. As you'd expect, there's also a gift shop with lots of
Corvette goodies in a wide range of prices. The Corvette Hall of Fame sponsors
many car shows throughout the season. It also provides guided tours for car
clubs who want to visit as a group. Just down the road from the Corvette
Americana Hall of Fame is a Best Western, which has an indoor pool, spa,
exercise room, and even accepts small pets.Cooperstown is perhaps best
known for the Baseball Hall of Fame which is located in the center of town.
Surrounding this attraction are many quaint shops and Victorian era houses.
About a half hour drive East on I-88, you can visit Howe Caverns, Secret Caverns,
and the Iriquois Museum.
