What is a starter? Why buy one?
Starters are large electric motors that allow you to spin your engine over to get it started. If you have a high-performance motor it puts extra strain on the starter because the added compression in your motor makes it more difficult to spin over. While a replacement OEM starter may work ok for a stock application, a performance vehicle requires a performance starter to match. High-torque starters are available with gear reduction drives to spin your engine over faster without drawing as much current from your battery.
