If you are building a high-performance motor for racing or competition, the increase in compression makes it a lot more difficult for the starter to crank the engine over. This is also taxing on your battery and can lead to a reduced lifespan for both components. One solution is to upgrade to a gear reduction D-Series starter. These starters have more mechanical advantage so that they can more easily crank the engine and draw less current at the same time. In addition many of these gear reduction starters are compact and lightweight to give you a little extra edge over the competition. We think this is a great way to go for both street and race machines.
