Fog lights usually work best when your 80 headlights are off, but because of many road laws they are often wired to work in tandem with low beam headlights. In general, yellow (officially known as "selective yellow") 80 fog lights are more effective in adverse conditions due to the reduction in short blue light waves present in white lights, which can distract the eye and make it more difficult to see detail.
