What are wheel studs? Why buy them?
Wheel studs are the threaded pieces that extend through your axles and hubs and allow your wheels to be firmly attached to your ride. Studs are highly vulnerable to damage from stripped lug nuts and over-tightening. Both of these situations pose a major safety hazard. A stripped stud means that you cannot properly tighten your wheel all the way, and a stud that has been over-tightened can suddenly snap putting you in urgent danger. In either case you should immediately replace all of your studs with a brand new replacement set. High performance studs are also available with greatly increased strength that will hold up to large sticky tires and spirited driving. In addition studs come in varying lengths so if you are changing to wheels that are thicker than your originals or want to run wheel spacers, you can buy extended studs to accommodate your needs.
