About this Manufacturer:
Pilot's mufflers are made to replace your vehicle's factory muffler, and offer improved looks and deeper tones.
*What is a muffler? Are there different types of mufflers?*According to our resident expert Deryl Atanasu, "Mufflers are positioned by the manufacturer "where there is space" on the car. All mufflers tend to be placed behind the rear axle, as this allows a lower floor-pan in the passenger compartment. Vehicles with single exaust generally have the muffler placed in a direct line with the tailpipe and just before the exaust tip. Some high-performance vehicles have a dual exaust (i.e. corvettes), where both left and right sides have a muffler in a direct line with the tailpipe and just before the exaust tip. Other vehicles (i.e. camaro, firebird) have a single exaust pipe going back just past the rear axle. It then enters a muffler that is mounted in a side to side position. From there two tailpipes exit the muffler and extend to the rear or out the side of the vehicle behind the rear axle."*Are there different types of mufflers? Mufflers mounted in a side to side position are generally called (transverse mounted). Where the others, which are more common overall, would be classified as in-line.*Are mufflers a direct fit for my car?*The answer is no most times. The majority of mufflers on the market are universal fit. Most manufacturers of universal, non vehicle-specific mufflers, provide each mufflers' physical dimensions, adding notation as to the inlet or inlets (size and quantity) as well as exits (size and quantity). Some manufacturers make direct-fit vehicle specific mufflers for cars, in which case each muffler is equipped with hangers in factory locations.*If there are two different types of mufflers (transverse-mounted and in-line), how do I know which one to buy for my car?*To be sure, just run back real quick and check what kind of muffler you have. Check inlet and outlet count, and whether or not the tailpipe is coming right off the muffler or if the muffler is separated from the tailpipe by a length of exhaust piping. Then when you shop our website, look at the image and make sure it's the right type of muffler for your vehicle. Remember that you also need to know the size of the inlet and outlet on your factory muffler (i.e. the exhaust pipe diameter) to make sure it mounts up directly to your factory exhaust system.
